Most dishwashers are a standard 24" built-in, but 18" compact and drawer models exist for tight kitchens. Measure the opening and check the door swing. If you want it to disappear into the cabinetry, ask about panel-ready models that take a custom front.

This is the spec people notice most. Dishwashers are rated in decibels (dBA), and lower is quieter — Bosch's 800 Series runs at 42 dBA, about as quiet as they get. Low-40s is barely audible in an open kitchen; mid-to-upper 40s is still comfortable but you'll hear it run. If your kitchen opens onto a living space, this is the spec to spend on.

A third rack up top makes room for utensils and small items and frees space below. Adjustable tines and a fold-down design let you fit awkward pots and tall glasses. If you run full loads often, the flexible interior is worth more than most features.

How should I get the space ready before delivery?
