Washer Capacity Ratings

Did you know that until very recently all of the major washing machine manufacturers used a variety of sizing formula’s in order to determine the tub capacity of their entire line of washers? Front loaders and top loaders, high efficiency or standard, each manufacturer advertised a size that was determined without an industry standard! Consumers had no chance to compare apples to apples in size ratings. With the help of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) the individual companies have finally all agreed to a worldwide standard which each manufacturer will use in sizing their washing machines capacity. Hurrah for the consumer! But beware, existing inventory still has old sizing labels sure to cause confusion and chaos.
