Facts about Portable Dishwashers

Do Dishwashers Use Hot Water?

Portable dishes save space without compromising on clean dishes. Learn more here!

Not all dishwashers are the same. In fact, you can find permanent and mobile ones and larger and smaller ones. You have choices. Portable dishwashers are popular in spaces that don’t have much square footage. What are portable dishwashers? Take a look at these facts about them below.

What Are Portable Dishwashers?

Portable dishwashers are dishwashers you can move around your kitchen or home. Unlike traditional dishwashers, they are not permanently built into the cabinet space under your kitchen counter.

Two types of portable dishwashers are freestanding and countertop. Freestanding models are nearly the same size as built-in dishwashers but sit on wheels and may or may not have a countertop surface. Countertop dishwashers naturally sit on the countertop and are the most compact but can still fit in quite a few dishes, about 4-6 place settings.

How to Use a Portable Dishwasher

Portable dishwashers source water from your kitchen faucet through a hose connector. This connector attaches to two hoses, one that sources water from the faucet and another that drains dirty water out into the sink.

One must turn on the hot water on the kitchen faucet, turn it off, and connect the hose connector to it. Turn on the hot water faucet.

Next, plug the portable dishwasher into a three-pronged socket, turn it on, choose your dishwashing cycle, and press start.

The cycle can last 1-4 hours, depending on your soil level and chosen cycle. A freestanding portable dishwasher uses about four gallons of water per load, which is about the same as what a built-in dishwasher uses and much less than what hand-washing uses.

How to Clean a Portable Dishwasher

You can clean a portable dishwasher the same way you would clean any other dishwasher. If you would like to use a natural way to sanitize it, you can run an empty dishwasher on a hot cycle with a bowl of white vinegar and baking soda on the top rack.

Are Portable Dishwashers Worth It?

Portable dishwashers are great options for homes with limited kitchen space. Mobility is a great way to keep small spaces multi-functional. Plus, they can be less expensive than a built-in version.
