First Energy Star Electric Dryer

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently certified the first electric dyer with the Energy Star designation. The new Whirlpool Duet model WED87HED steam dryer uses technology that combines advanced moisture sensors and dual element modulation technology through their EcoBoost setting. The super sensitive sensors detect precisely when the clothes are dry, turning the dryer off preventing over drying and energy waste. The EcoBoost setting measures and adjusts the output of the dual heating elements based on the exact level of moisture in the load of clothes being dried.  This new technology produces a 20% reduction in energy consumption. It is noteworthy that the drying cycle time is actually going to be slightly longer with this new Energy Star technology.
Dryers have been identified as the next appliance to have energy standards developed and applied by the EPA as they state that over 80% of the homes in the U.S. have a clothes dryer and these dryers consume about 6% of all residential electricity.   Whirlpool’s senior manager of government relations Nick Gillespie said “Clothes dryers are the next frontier for significant residential energy efficiency gains, and we are proud to be the first manufacturer to offer Energy Star dryers.”
The model WED87HEDW is a 7.4 cu. ft. capacity with Wrinkle Shield. It comes with a drum light, damp dry signal, steam option, end of cycle signal, ad control lock. It has five temperature settings and has a display to show the estimated amount of time remaining for the cycle. The MSRP is $1099.
