Top Control or Front Control Dishwashers

Top Control or Front Control Dishwashers

Top control or front control? This is one choice to make for your next dishwasher.

A dishwasher’s style is just one part of your criteria when selecting a new dishwasher, but it is nonetheless a significant one. There are many different types of dishwashers, but for standard ones ranging from large capacity to compact, you can find two models. The difference between these models is the placement of the electronic control panel. Here’s how you can choose between top control or front control dishwashers.

What Is a Top Control Dishwasher?

A top control dishwasher is one with a control panel located on top of its door. When you open the dishwasher, the panel will become visible on the flat top rim. The top control dishwasher can have a pocket handle or a bar handle.

Pros

One benefit of top control dishwashers is its seamless look. That is likely the main reason why people love this model so much. A hidden control panel and a pocket handle make the dishwasher as smooth as possible and blend in with the surrounding cabinetry.

Other benefits include its easy-clean surface and smart features. Its smooth exterior is easier to clean than one with crevices. Not all top control dishwashers have smart features, but you are more likely to find a smart dishwasher that comes with a top control panel.

Cons

The cons of either dishwasher model are slim. The largest downside of this model is that you cannot access the controls unless you open the door, which is problematic if the machine is in mid-cycle. This kind is also more expensive than front control dishwashers.

What Is a Front Control Dishwasher?

A front control dishwasher is a classic-style dishwasher with the control panel on the top front of the door. It is always visible on the exterior. This design can have a pocket handle or an external handle stick.

Pros

You can access the control panel at any time. You might also be able to get more details on your front control dishwasher than a top control one. This positioning is classic and perfect for a classic kitchen.

Cons

The only cons of front control dishwashers are that someone could accidentally push the external buttons and that smart front control dishwashers are less common.
