Why Are My Dishes Coming Out Dirty

Why Are My Dishes Coming Out Dirty

Are your dishes still dirty after a dishwashing cycle?

Dishwasher problems ultimately have to do with the dishwasher not doing its job, and that job is to wash your dishes. A common complaint is that the dishwasher smells bad or that the glassware is cloudy, but what if your dishes are flat-out coming out dirty? The solution could be easier than you think.

Loading Dishes Incorrectly

It could be as simple as loading the dishwasher incorrectly. The water must be able to reach all dirty surfaces of your plates, cups, etc., which means that you must take care to avoid overlapping dishes or covering them with large objects like pots, pans, and mixing bowls.

Using the Wrong Detergent

Some detergents work better than others. It may simply be a matter of changing the dishwasher detergent brand. You can also experiment with different types of dishwasher detergent, like pods, powder, liquid, and tablets. Also, remember to be careful in following the detergent manufacturer’s instructions so that you do not use too much or too little or use it with the wrong cycle.

Using the Wrong Cycle

It is also possible that you need to use a different wash cycle. If the dishes are heavily soiled or even moderately soiled, the load might call for a heavy-duty cycle. See the dishwasher cycles available on your model and see which might suit your dishwashing needs best per load.

Washing with the Wrong Temperature

A hot temperature of at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for dissolving dishwasher detergent and allowing it to make the chemical reaction that washes your dishes well. In fact, the water should be at the right temperature when it enters the dishwasher.

Having a Dirty Filter

Did you know your dishwasher has a filter? It sits at the bottom of your dishwasher and catches small bits of food as dirty water flows down the dishwasher drain. Cleaning it out once in a while will help your dishwasher function well overall.
