How to Maintain a Front Load Washer

How to Maintain a Front Load Washer

Practicing these tips can help your washer last the longest.

Front load washing machines are becoming more popular than ever these days. The benefits of their water usage efficiency are becoming more well-known, and the machines themselves are improving to become longer-lasting and less conducive to mold growth. Even so, there are several ways to maintain a front load washer to keep it in pristine condition for many years to come.

Use Appropriate Detergent

When using your front load washer, use the right type of detergent. The wrong kind can create a film on the washer’s drum and pipes that can disrupt how efficiently it runs. The buildup could even cause damage not covered by a warranty. If you have a high-efficiency washer, it is best to use an HE laundry detergent to match.

Less Is More

One should also follow directions or use less than prescribed for your detergent and liquid fabric softener. Today’s front-loading washing machines use less water while still achieving a thorough cleaning. Therefore, one should use less detergent and fabric softener (if any) to match the amount of water used.

Wash with the Right Cycle

One should also be careful to run the laundry machine in the most appropriate and efficient manner. Load the washing machine up with a full load, but not so full that there is no room for the clothes to move around. Choose an appropriate wash cycle each time so clothes and other laundry will get the best clean.

Leave the Door Open

After the wash, take the clothes out as soon as possible and leave the door open until it is dry. You want to let the washer air out and dry quickly so that mold and mildew do not have a chance to grow.

Clean the Drum

Sometimes, it can help to clean the washer’s interior by loading it with a vinegar solution instead of laundry detergent and running it on the hottest cycle. White vinegar is an excellent household cleaning product, and paired with scalding hot water, will kill bacteria in your washer.

Clean the Gasket

The gasket is the rubber seal around the washer door. It can be a disgusting place, with debris stuck on or under it. However, it too needs to be cleaned, and your washer and laundry will thank you for it.

Clean the Drain Pump Filter

The drain pump filter is another part where debris can gather. If your washer has delayed drainage or excessive vibration, cleaning the drain pump filter can help. If you need help to maintain a front load washer, Landers Appliance is at your service!
