Stacking a washer and dryer can help you save space in an apartment, small home, or virtually anywhere you want to maximize space. It’s one smart way to do the laundry and provide extra vertical storage space. Stacking a washing and dryer is not simply setting one machine on top of the other, though. You will want to follow these directions before going ahead with the new arrangement.
Use the Right Model
First, you should avoid stacking a washer and dryer that is not designed to be stacked. Specific models are made so that one can stack them on top of and be fastened to one another. Without this design capability, you run the risk of the top appliance falling off, misalignment, and a whole host of other problems. Measure Right
You should also make accurate measurements of your space before ordering new machines. There should be at least five inches between the back of the laundry machines and the back wall and at least one inch on each side. If you are housing the units in a closet, the closet doors need to be louvered or have a gap at the bottom for ventilation.
Stacking the Washer and Dryer
With the help of a friend, or the help of Landers Appliance, move the appliances to the area in which you are installing them. Then, lift the dryer on top of the washer until the fronts and sides are flush and the dryer back slightly overhangs the washer back. Ensure that both appliances are level. You will need the appropriate washer and dryer stacker kit to fasten the appliances together. This kit usually consists of clips and brackets. You will always want to put the dryer on top of the washer, since dryers are lighter than washers, especially given the water load.
