Wall Ovens: Pros and Cons

Wall Ovens: Pros and Cons

Thinking about whether a wall oven is a good option for your kitchen? Learn the pros and cons here.

One of the engineering feats our contemporary kitchens have seen is the invention of the wall oven. This sleek form of the oven is often seen in the classiest kitchens. If you are renovating your kitchen and are considering whether a wall oven is worth your purchase, here are the pros and cons to know.

No Bending

If ease of access is your greatest concern, the wall oven may be for you. Because wall ovens sit at eye level, they require no bending down. The most common style incorporates the pull-down door, although newer models have side-opening or double side-opening doors. These appliances still have the same average cubic space as a regular range oven, so you don’t have to compromise on space for that ideal placement.

Separate Stovetop

Imagine what it might be like to have the oven in one place and the stovetop across the aisle. With the oven sitting comfortably within the cabinetry, the stovetop will naturally be inserted in the countertop, either against a wall or on the kitchen island. One can either purchase a rangetop or a cooktop. Whether this is a pro or con for you may depend on your cooking and baking needs.

Professional Installation

While an avid DIYer might be able to buy and install a range himself, even the most can-do handyman would be wise to let an appliance professional install a wall oven. The job will require hardwiring of the wall and proper fitting, plus the installation of the stovetop. Unless you are a professional electrician, you should always leave that job to a trained expert.

Professional Repair

Wall ovens do have a notable detriment in this area. A professional repairman can easily pull out a range from the wall if need be, but it is no easy task to pull a wall oven out of the wall. Because of their placement, wall ovens are notoriously more challenging to repair. It is by no means impossible, however, and Landers Appliance is happy to be there in your hour of need should any problem arise.

Lifespan

Ranges and wall ovens alike can last between 13-15 years, although it will ultimately last the longest if one takes good care of it and cleans it regularly.
