Installing an Over-the-Range Microwave Oven

Microwave Plate Is Not Spinning

Here’s your brief guide on installing over-the-range microwave ovens.

An over-the-range microwave oven is one of the most convenient kinds of microwave ovens. They stay nicely out of the way, giving you more countertop space, and efficiently keeping two cooking appliances in one vertical location. If you want to have one for your home, know these instructions for installing an over-the-range microwave oven.

How to Install an Over-the-Range Microwave Oven

Locate the Studs

The first step is to locate the studs in your wall with a stud finder. It is best for the microwave oven to be attached to two studs, but if you can only locate one, consult your installation manual to find out what’s best in that case.

Mark the Screw and Plug Hole Locations with Templates

Your microwave oven set may come with two cardboard templates to help you locate the best placement for the wall mounting plate and the upper cabinet plate. Use these templates and a pencil to mark the exact locations of where the screws will go. Don’t forget where to drill through to let the power cord channel through the upper cabinet. If you do not have templates, use the pieces themselves to make markings. Precision is worth it!

Attach the Wall Mount Plate and Upper Cabinet Plate

Once the careful calculations are made and double-checked, attach the wall mount plate and then the upper cabinet plate. This plate will help to secure the microwave oven to the wall.

Drill Through the Upper Cabinet

Next, drill out where the power cord will go through. The power cord will stay safely hidden, making your microwave oven keep a clean look.

Install the Microwave Oven

Remove loose materials inside your microwave oven like the rotating plate and the track. Then, with the help of a friend, lift the microwave oven and insert it into its place on the wall mount. Drill through the upper cabinet into the microwave oven as the instruction manual dictates. Pull the power cord through the upper cabinet and plug it into the wall socket. Replace the microwave oven’s contents, and you’re set to use your over-the-range microwave oven safely.
