Meal Prepping for Busy Schedules

Meal Prepping for Busy Schedules

Meal prepping is a great way to stay well-fed with a busy schedule!

Whether you live by yourself, with a spouse, or with your family, days can always get busy. With so much to do and so little time, it can be difficult to stay well-fed throughout the days and weeks. It is not an uncommon problem. Could meal prepping be the strategy for you? Meal prepping is a fantastic way to get your daily meals and great for busy schedules.

What Is Meal Prepping?

Meal prepping is the cooking and storing of meals 2-5 days in advance. One can portion these provisions over the course of the next several days, saving you time throughout those days. It is the preparation of a meal in bulk that one can portion out for one or more people.

Why Meal Prep?

Meal prepping is beneficial for busy families or individuals that want to save time during the week on cooking food. If someone needs a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner, one only has to grab what was already prepared and eat away.

It also helps one monitor portion sizes and diet. It makes one consciously think about what they are eating each week and how healthy it is. Fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins are the best ingredients for meals prepared in advance. Because you don’t want to run out before the allotment has ended, you are more careful about sizing your portions as well.

This process can also help you save money. Buying and preparing your own food helps to cut down costs, as well as preparing meals in bulk. With meals planned for the next several days, you are less likely to order out. Plus, you only buy what you need at the grocery store.

Tips for Successful Meal Prepping

If you are a beginner, you can start small by preparing breakfast, lunch, or dinner for the next two days. Then, you can expand to up to five days. Meal prepping is best for when you have several hours to spare, which is usually why people meal prep on Sunday afternoons. However, one can do it any day of the week.

Use fresh ingredients, and store what you aren’t eating in the next two days in the freezer. Dethaw by keeping provisions in the refrigerator or running under cool water. Consider what you love to eat and find ways to mix it up throughout the week with different seasonings, forms, or sides. Meal prepping can be trial and error, so play around with what works best for you.
